Welcome to our Automotive Technology Forum.
Here, you will get insights about our knowledge in Automotive Technology and learn about automotive maintenance.
BASIC CAR CARE MAINTENANCE:
A cyclic chirping or squealing noise coming from the vicinity of a wheel often indicates a wheel bearing or axle bearing that is failing. Usually the noise will change with the speed of the vehicle, and it may come and go at various speeds. This noise should not be ignored because if the bearing fails, it may cause the wheel to lockup or come loose from your car!...READ MORE...
FUEL SYSTEMS RELATED PROBLEMS:
If the fuel pump is not delivering adequate fuel pressure and volume to the engine, the engine may not start or run properly. Low fuel pressure can cause hard starting, a rough idle, misfiring, hesitation and stalling. No fuel pressure will prevent the engine from starting, or will cause the engine to quit running if the fuel pump fails while driving....READ MORE...
AIR CONDITIONING PROBLEMS:
Your A/C system may have lost its charge of refrigerant. This is probably the most common cause of a no cooling problem. Another possible cause of no cooling may be that your A/C compressor is not be engaging when you turn on the A/C. This can be caused by an electrical fault in the A/C compressor circuit or the magnetic clutch that drives the compressor. Another cause could be an internal obstruction inside the refrigerant circuit that is preventing refrigerant from circulating inside the A/C system. Another possibility might be a blend air door inside the HVAC unit that is stuck in the HEAT position and is preventing air from flowing through the A/C evaporator....READ MORE...
BATTERY DIAGNOSTICS AND REPAIRS:
Once battery voltage drops below a certain threshold, the onboard electronics, ignition and fuel systems may stop working normally and cause the engine to stall. The battery will not have enough reserve power to restart the engine, so the vehicle will be stranded until the problem can be diagnosed and repaired....READ MORE...
BRAKE AND ANTI LOCK BRAKE:
Brake problems usually indicate the need for certain repairs or replacement parts, so here is a quick review of some common fixes:...READ MORE...
COOLING SYSTEMS:
Coolant leaks can occur anywhere in the cooling system. Nine out of ten times, coolant leaks are easy to find because the coolant can be seen dripping, spraying, seeping or bubbling from the leaky component. The first symptom of trouble is usually engine overheating. But your car may also have a Low Coolant indicator lamp. If you suspect your vehicle has a coolant leak, open the hood and visually inspect the engine and cooling system for any sign of liquid leaking from the engine, radiator or hoses. The color of the coolant may be green, orange or yellow depending on the type of antifreeze in the system. You may also notice a sweet smell, which is a characteristic odor of ethylene glycol antifreeze....READ MORE...
ENGINE PROBLEMS AND REPAIRS:
Most newer vehicles have replaced the traditional key-style ignition switch with a Start Engine Push button system. A Smart Fob sends a coded security signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) via the vehicle's keyless entry system when the fob is inside the vehicle. This tells the PCM that the engine can be started at any time.
Before the engine will start, the transmission must be in Park or Neutral, and the driver must depress and hold the brake pedal. Pressing the Start Engine Button sends a command to the PCM. The PCM then checks the status of the Park/Neutral Safety switch and the Brake Pedal Switch. If the transmission is in Park or Neutral, and the brake is on, the PCM then sends a start command to the starter motor to crank the engine....READ MORE...
EMISSION CONTROLS AND EMISSION PROBLEMS:
Emissions testing or Smog testing is used in many areas of the country to improve air quality. But even if your community is not affected, you still need to know about emissions testing and smog checks because problems that often cause emission failures can also cause a variety of drive ability and performance complaints.
Mandatory emissions testing has become a fact of life in many areas as a means of identifying vehicles that are "gross polluters" so they can be fixed....READ MORE...
